Delve into the living Soul of Yoga by walking in the footsteps of the great ones.
The Modern Mystic is a six week training diving deep into the teachings and histories of several traditional masters of the Indian Subcontinent. Yoga has powerful roots with countless luminary masters and lineages that are largely unknown in the modern western yoga world.
For six weeks, we will study the stories, teachings, and poetry of masters who lived in the highest state. There’s a reading list – you’ll have to do some ordering now. And there’s a movie list too! Each week will include a streaming movie assignment. Every week David will do a live 90 minute satsang via zoom that will include discussion and practice (always meditation, sometimes kirtan) where we will do practices specific to the master or tradition we’re learning about. You’ll get a weekly study guide and all the live sessions will be recorded so you can review them or re-do them.
We will not only “learn” the teachings and stories of the masters, we will have their darshan – we will meet them, we will feel them, we will spend time with their immortal energy.
We will explore iconic masters from the 19th and 20th century like Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Ramana Maharshi, Anandamayi Ma, and Bhagawan Nityananda. We will learn about legendary poet saints like Mirabai and Kabir. We will learn about lesser known traditions like the digambar (naked) avadhutas and the great working class saints of Maharashtra like Tukaram and Jnaneshwar. Along with the Hindu/yoga-associated saints, we will also learn about and hear the songs of some of the great Sufi Masters from the Indian Subcontinent.
It’s going to be a journey. It’s going to be an initiation. This training is an opportunity to invite the living energy of the Indian saints into your life and your practice.
This course is for you if you love yoga and want to learn more about the inner traditions.
This course is for you if you love The Mystery and want to learn about real-life wizards and mystics who gave themselves wholly to it.
If you are a yoga teacher, studio owner or owner of a yoga-related business, this course is a must. It’s our belief that we need to ensure that western yoga remains rooted in it’s non-white, non-western, non-commercial roots.
