Okay – I am calling it: this is the Year of the Conscious Man. With American Father’s Day just 10 days away now, and all of the token gestures and cards and powertools being purchased, I want to stake this claim. I wanted to say “this is the Year of the Conscious Father, but that might make some men feel excluded. But when I say Conscious Father I include all men. Dads, grandpas, sons, gay men – all men. When a man comes into his power – he becomes a Father to his world. He becomes the one who takes care of stuff and protects what needs to be protected. He becomes the one who does hard shit when no one else wants to.
When I say say conscious – don’t get me wrong: I am not talking about “consciousness”. I am not talking about awakening kundalini or about men who collect crystals or burn sage in their yurts. Don’t get me wrong – I am totally into all of that. But when I say conscious, I am talking about BEING CONSCIOUS – as apposed to being unconscious, in a trance, asleep-at-the-wheel of your life. I’m talking about being AWAKE.
This is the year when we men will be waking up. We will wake up in our relationships. We will wake up in the way we relate to our health and our bodies. We will wake up to the way we live. Most of all we will wake up and create a brilliant vision for our life and learn how to direct our life-force toward the fulfillment of that vision.
So yeah – wish the dads in your life Happy Father’s Day. Buy them cards and ties and screw-guns. But also give them space and permission to grow. Encourage them to find their way onto a path of vision and power.
This is the Year of the Conscious Man.
